According to a recent study published in the journal Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, a booster dose of the Covid vaccine is directly associated with the persistence of Covid-19 antibodies. The study revealed that a booster shot produced durable antibodies in all groups of the population, including those who had recovered from a Covid-19 infection.
In the study, the University of Virginia School of Medicine researchers studied the influence of Pfizer’s and Moderna’s mRNA booster shots on 117 UVA employees and 28 volunteers. The employees selected for the study were fully vaccinated, including booster shots, while the selected volunteers had only completed their primary vaccination series.
The study′s findings showed that antibody levels after the primary series and booster were similar between weeks 1 and 31. However, after week 31, the boosted antibodies were still present in the body, regardless of whether the person had had COVID-19. The lead author of the study stated that the team initially thought that the booster shot produced a greater number of antibodies, but they later found that the antibodies were long-lasting.
When the researchers compared the two vaccines, they discovered that the antibodies produced by the Moderna booster lasted longer than those produced by the Pfizer booster. Additionally, they also found that the Pfizer vaccine produced fewer antibodies in the elderly population in comparison to younger recipients. However, age was not a limit for the Moderna booster dose.
